This is beneficial because you are not cutting across the fibers or little straws when you use it. This means the board surface doesn’t suffer the same permanent damage that edge grain wooden cutting boards or even plastic ones do. This surface scarring can be visually unappealing and even unsanitary.

The finish treatment that these receive to create a durable, usable and sanitary surface is as follows:

• Through final sanding to create a smooth surface.

• A Food Grade Mineral Oil soak - to fill the wood fibers or little straws eliminating voids for water or other liquids to penetrate.

• A sealing treatment with a mixture of Food Grade Mineral Oil, Beeswax and Carnauba Wax. This acts as a cap for the wood fibers or little straws. This cap seals in the mineral oil and hardens to a smooth surface.

Maintaining your End Grain Butcher Block is simple….

• Dont submerge in water or put in a dishwasher.

• Handwash with soap and water only. No need for harsh chemicals.

• Use Food Grade Mineral Oil and Butcher Block Butter to recondition as needed.
